I am absolutely thrilled to share that we are officially ANKC-registered border collie breeders! Our prefix is:

Beaustrong

Picking a prefix is not easy. Not only do you need to find something completely unique, but I wanted it to mean something. I like to find special meaning in everything, and it’s nice to have a story to tell and a legacy to leave.

Firstly, I wanted to use ‘Broadmeadow’. That is self-explanatory. But it is too widely used across the internet from towns to companies. Dang it!

Then, I thought I’d merge my kids’ names: Ashcart. Cute. Liked it.

Finally, while re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the name ‘Beauxbatons’ (the French wizarding school) really stood out to me. I thought: “How nice is the word ‘beau’!”. It means beautiful or handsome. Perfect for border collies, who are the most handsome of dogs. Then, I had a brain wave. Taylor’s pedigree name includes the words ‘strong’ paying homage to her ‘Borderstrong’ heritage. I thought to myself: “Beaustrong sounds pretty great”. It’s the kind of dog I’d like to breed and work with.

Beautiful and strong.

And to my incredible delight, the name was not taken in any way on the World Wide Web or the international and Australian pedigree databases. Huzzah! And today, I got the news that we’re officially registered!

Our first litter!

Taylor is only 9 months old, so we’re still a ways off from the pitter-patter of little Beaustrong puppies.

We expect to have our first litter (Taylor & Marshall) in early 2026. If you’re interested in an inaugural Beaustrong puppy, please complete the puppy questionnaire on our contact page. This pairing will produce black-and-white, chocolate-and-white, and tri-colour pups.

Until then…

Marshall is enjoying his flyball with our new team, Awesome Pawsome. We’re also going to start some agility at some point. Taylor and I begin our obedience careers this week as we commence level 1. I aim to get in one competition before her first litter of pups.

Will we re-enter the show ring? Taylor didn’t have a great time at the 3 shows we did, so I’m not sure. I’m going to focus on teaching her obedience and flyball (when she’s old enough) and then we’ll see if we can knock a few shows out when she’s bit more mature. I am hoping to get a special puppy from the Marshall & Taylor pairing that will do well in the show ring. I’m want to breed a champion tri-colour. So we’ll see.
